Finding the right place for a roll of wooden paper towel holder in a kitchen or work room is often a struggle. Holders of vertical paper towels overturn all the time. If the roll of paper towel only sits on a bench, it is susceptible to getting dirty, and flimsy. Plastic holders for paper towels are usually more problems than it is worth. The ideal solution is a sturdy wooden paper towel holder that hangs from the bottom of a kitchen cabinet. Or from under the edge of the table.
How to make a wooden paper towel holder? Starting with place two 1-by-3-by-6-inch pieces of lumber side by side on a work surface with 6-inch contact edges. Measure 1 1/2 inch from the bottom of each piece. Draw a straight line at that point that is 1 1/2 inches long and extends outwardly of the timber touches the edges. The lines will be parallel to the end of the pieces of wood. Draw a 1/2 inch line that extends down from the end of each horizontal line you drew on the tables. The result will be two L-side ways. The L shape on a piece of wood should reflect the L shape on the other piece of wood. Place a 3/8 inch cutter to a router.
And cut a slot along the L shapes that is 3/8 inches deep and 3/8-inch wide. These will be the side panels of the paper towel holder, and the slots will hold the paper towel rod in place. Support the side panels so that the slots face each other. And place a 1-by-3-by-12-inch piece of wood between the side panels at the end opposite the slots. The parts should form corners at right angles to the ends of the 12-inch piece. Which will be the top part of the paper towel holder. Attach to the sides of the top with two 1 1/2-inch screws driven by the sides at the ends of the top piece. Drill a 1/4-inch wide and 1/2-inch deep hole in the center of the ends of a 1 1/2-inch long 1-inch wide piece of dowel.
Glue a 1-inch long, 1/4-inch wide spike on each end of the 1-inch-thick spike with wood glue. Push the smaller pin to the right into the drilled holes. So that half an inch of the smaller pin pieces protrude from the end of the long rod. Place the wooden paper towel holder plans on the bottom of a cabinet or other location. And use 1 1/2 inch screws driven through the top of the paper towel holder to attach the paper towel holder. Put a roll of paper towels on the dowel rod. Slide the ends of the small spike into the slots on the side of the paper towel holder. Making sure it goes all the way along the long side of the L and rests on the short side of the L to keep it on its place.
